3 Common Questions

Jun 26th, ‘08

Ben at Big Ben Patton’s Place posted an interesting article.

In this article Ben asks some of the top bloggers three questions about blogging.

“How do you measure the Success of a blog?”

“What is the fastest way to gain loyal RSS Subscribers?”

” If you could go back in time and talk to the younger (Insert Your Name Here) what advice would you give him?”

After reading some of the answers that Problogger, The Unviversity Kid, MoneyBites, ImwithJoe, PopularWealth, JohnCow, and OneMansGoal, I decided that I would answer these questions myself. Maybe we can come up with lots of different answers that will help us out.

How do you measure the success of a blog?

Well, for me personally, there are many ways that one can determine whether a blog is successful or not. I think in the long run it all depends on what goals you have set for yourself. For example, If your blog is all about making money then you can use that as a reference to determine if your blog is successful or not. If your making money off your blog then your blog is a success, If not, then keep trying.

If you can accomplish the goals that you have set for your blog then by all means, you are doing the right thing.

What is the fastest way to gain loyal RSS Subscribers?

This is an interesting question. If the question was about the fastest way of gaining RSS readers, then I would say hold a contest. Contests are great for gaining readers, however loyal readers may not be the case.

I personally feel it all boils down to good content, hard work, promotion, and lots more hard work on your part. You will need to write posts that will make your readers want to come back for more. Think of it like this, would you want to sign up to your RSS feed if you were some random visitor passing by? If not, then I would work on improving your blog until you can confidently say that you would sign up to it.

If you could go back in time and talk to the younger ”Iron Blogger” what advice would you give him?

I would simply tell him that patience is a virtue, as patience was always a problem for me. Basically, I wanted results and I wanted results fast. Little did I know that it takes time to achieve results. Keep working away constantly, eventually success will come to you.

If you haven’t read Ben’s Post then do it now. Read what all these bloggers have wrote and use it to your advantage. There are lots of different answers here, so variety is not a problem. I’m sure everyone could learn a thing or two from this one.

  2. Good answers Iron Blogger! I agree, quick subscribers isn’t always the best, but, if you work hard and put forth good content you’ll turn them into loyal readers.

  4. I have used contests before and It seems that as soon as you launch one, your RSS subscribers will sky rocket. However, as soon as the contest is over it will dip back down.

Your RSS will probably end up with more Subscribers then what you had before but you usually do end of losing a good chunk.
