Goals for August

Aug 3rd, ‘08

Goals for AugustIf you remember at little while back, I made “A Goal Checklist” for the month of July. I said that I would take these goals and compare them with the results I got at the end of the month. Well, I now have my results and I think it’s time to compare them to see how well I really did. Did I do very well, or did I do horribly bad?

Once we are done going through Julys goals, I will make my August goals. As I said before, goals are good to have, they help you stay on track and not lose your focus. They also give you something to work towards and put effort into. They help keep you in top shape as a blogger and as a worker.

Here are my original goals for July:

  • Get 50 RSS subscribers
  • Make $500 from this blog
  • Obtain 5000 unique visitors
  • Obtain 10000 unique pageviews
  • Write a blog post everyday

Now lets go into more detail on each goal, and see how I did, and what I could have done better.

Get 50 RSS subscribers - I came very close to achieving this goal. I ended up with a maximum of 42. I think with maybe a little bit more writing and some contests, I could get this number higher. I came very close, but not close enough.

Make $500 from this blog - With my Blog Income Report being only $62, this is one area that I will definitely put more focus into. $500 was a little too much to shoot for at first but it may be realistic now. We will have to wait and see. I do have a few tactics though that I am going to be trying out.

Obtain 5000 unique visitors - A total of 1, 362 visitors came to my blog in July. This is a fairly decent number but unfortunately, it is not that close to my goal I set out to achieve. I thought traffic would pick up a little faster, but it took longer than what I expected.

Obtain 10000 unique page views - As a result of lower traffic, this goal was not possible to achieve. I ended up with 3,565 page views, which is a good number. Once again though, it is not good enough to achieve my goal I originally set out to pass.

Write a blog post everyday - I was very close to getting this done. I think the only time I missed posting was during the last week of July. I was a little time restrictive then and I did not have time to write anything.  I think a little bit more planning ahead and writing posts ahead of time is the key to posting everyday.

As you can see, I came very close to achieving these goals, but came up a little short. All of these goals go hand in hand, and if you do not do well at one, you probably won’t to well in the others as well.

With all that being said though, I have come up with my list of goals for the month of August, and here they are:

  • Get 100 RSS subscribers
  • Make $250 from this blog
  • Obtain 5000 unique visitors
  • Obtain 10000 unique page views
  • Post every day.

Some of these goals are similar to the older ones, but are altered a little bit. This is because now they seem much more realistic to achieve. If I put in the effort and keep trying, I’m sure I will be able to do better this month.

Have you made your goals for the month of August? If so, what are they?

  2. Well done, looks like you had a successful month! I’ve actually just made my first monthly goals. If I could build my RSS subscribers and visitors/page views as quickly as you have I’ll be very happy.

  8. Looks like your work has been successful, most of mine has too, but much hasn’t.

    I gained 22 RSS subscribers.
I made $50 through Adsense that wasn’t paid to me.
I posted all but one day.
How do you get so many visitors? My total visits on sitemeter for 10 months are like this month’s visits on a new blog. Any tips?
Plus, I am not sure how to calculate unique visits. What do you use?

  18. I just followed you over here from Imwithjoe and I like what I see. I also like the goals you set yourself. While it is never good to consistently set unachievable goals I appreciate that you aim high. It looks to me like you know what you are doing and I am going to stick around and see how you get on. Consider me a subscriber.

As for my August goals…..I have set myself the challenge of posting everyday this month. Feel free to come and have a look. It’s good to know you are doing the same.

    Cheers

  20. Good luck with your goals. ;) Here’s one pointer I’d like to give you (in case you didn’t know yet): Don’t give up. I’ve noticed a lot of bloggers are setting goals, but they give up after experiencing a hard week or so.

  22. @Nat - I use Google Analytics to keep count of my uniques as well as Woopra. My greatest tip for increasing traffic at this point is to, get your own blog design. This will greatly increase your traffic.

@Narenda - I will gladly do so! I love to share everything I do with my readers :).

@The Affiliate Post - Thanks for dropping by. That goal alone is going to be one of the hardest ones to achieve but I wish you luck and I hope I can achieve it as well.

@Lucas - Thanks Lucas, I really appreciate the support. To me, the only thing separating successful bloggers from non successful is not giving up.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Keep them comming.

  24. Thanks Rob, I checked on Google Analytics and was surprised to see high stats from June. Because I changed themes, then it didn’t work for July, but I am trying to set it up again now.
I use Woopra daily, though I do not see where it displays unique visits. I think Woopra is one of the best analyzing tools I have come across, I am glad I have it.(A lot of people that applied probably still do not have it).

  26. It took me I think almost a month or two before IronBlogger got accepted into the beta for Woopra.

It’s definitely worth the wait though, and is an amazing program.

  30. This was really great to read. Thank you. My blog has only been going for two weeks and I’m trying really hard to drive traffic to it. It’s really useful to have these stats that I can have something to compare myself to. Perhaps I’ll set myself a goal to beat your numbers!

  36. if your host supports it, i suggest using your web host stats because i find that a lot of third party stats loggers (like google analytics) tend to miss out on visitors for me. so i tend to use awstats on my server itself.

  38. I noticed that as well, but I always loved the advanced options that Google analytics provides.

Plus Woopra just looks sexy! :).
