The IronBlogger Theme

Jul 20th, ‘08

IronBlogger is almost one month old now, and as we near the end of the month of July, I have glad to report that everything is going very well for me. The blog is doing fantastic and growing at a steadily rate. Traffic is increasing and the RSS subscriber numbers are increasing. I’d like to thank everyone for visiting here and reading my posts, I really appreciate it. Thank ya very much everyone!

Today I am going to talk about my blog design for IronBlogger!

When I first needed to pick a designer for IronBlogger, I was very much lost. I had no idea who to go to and who to work with. I also didn’t know how The IronBlogger Themeto go about designing a blog as I have never went through the experience myself. After looking around and reading many, many, and many blog posts about blog design on ProBlogger, I came to a conclusion. I needed to look at some of my favorite blog designs and see who did designed them.

One blog that REALLY stuck out for me was the milk-man, (JohnCow). I loved the way that theme looked the moment I laid my eyes upon it. So I had to check out who designed it. So I clicked on the link at the bottom of the page and ended up on Weborithm. So I checked out the portfolio and well, let’s just say, I liked what I saw.

I sent in an email and as soon as the payment cleared, Hyder began to work on the design for IronBlogger.

When I was in the designing stages for IronBlogger, here is what I wanted in my blog design:

  • A blog with easy interface and a layout that would allow easy use of navigation
  • A blog that could monetize to make the most money off of it that I could
  • A blog design that was unique but still common
  • A design that would allow me to easily brand myself

Hyder took all of these things into consideration and started designing my blog.

Hyder was really nice to work with, He was very patient and really wanted the best for me. The biggest problem to overcome was that with this blog I had no previous design, so it was all made up in his head. Special props for that, He came up with the layout and everything all by himself. The whole process went very smooth, and was all done by email. I loved how the final product tuned out, and am quite proud of you Hyder. You did a really great job.

If anyone is needing a professional designer then I highly recommend using Weborithm as you main man. If you need some convincing then you can check out their portfolio here. They current offer blog design and website design as well. The prices are fairly cheap for the quality that you get. If you like the look of IronBlogger then head on over and see what Hyder has, I guarantee you will love his work, I know I did.

How about we all give the guys over at Weborithm a big cheer eh?

Thanks guys, love what ya did :).

  8. I do love the look of this site Rob. I have looked at Hyder’s portfolio before and I really loved what I saw. One thing that is really important, you have a link to the comments at the end of the post. I usually have to scroll up. I will look into Weborithm for a design, sounds like a good place to go.
    Cheer for Weborithm!

  10. Oooh by the way Rob, I found Hyder the same way as you did: by falling in love with the JonCow theme. Also, make sure your links open in a new tab.

  12. Yea, that was definitely his breaking point, when he did the Cow’s theme.

  14. Now I think he has become very recognized. He should make a really good theme for that site. I see he features recent customers, I wonder if you have received any decent traffic from there.

  18. Oh I really didn’t know that you have custom-designed your blog as all the while I thought you were using some kind of theme I’ve not seen elsewhere.

You certainly made the right choice even though yellow has never been my favorite color but with a clever mix of black, it does change my liking a little bit.

  20. @Nat - I actually do happen to receive a few hits from his website.

@narendra - Making money is a part of this blog, but definitively not the whole thing. That type of thing can get boring really fast, and not just to the readers.

@Yan - I remember seeing the two colors together somewhere else and thought that they go very well together. Turns out they do :).

  26. I think it’s pretty cool. Design wise it is perfect. I’d like to see it centered…maybe that’s just me, I feel off balance lol :)

But, it fits the theme of your site, the domain, and your brand, so good job.

I may need to get a custom design at some point, though I’ve customized my site a little….nothing like my own design.

  28. You will need one at one point. The only thing I think that throws some people off is the money it takes to buy your design.

Don’t be scared to fork out a little cash, it will be worth it in the long run :).

  32. I personally want it to be centered, haha. I’m a designer myself so I don’t pay money for my designs, but I do look around on blogs that I like and examine the traits I like in their designs. (Diligent’s typography is based off of Problogger)

  33. IronBlogger on 07.25.2008 at | permalink
  34. @Corey - I do the same thing. Every blog has some features that you like and some that you hate. When coming up with the design for IronBlogger, I took all of those things I saw from other blogs and used them on my own.

About the center alignment, I tried centering it, but I actually Preferred it left-aligned instead. I think it’s just because center is the norm. Maybe a new trend will happen and more blogs will be left-aligned, who knows?

  38. Pretty impressive stuff. Getting a unique theme is not in the budget right now, but will keep your recommendation in mind for the future when I will be getting a unique theme of my own designed.

Good luck in your life in the blogosphere.
