I love it when someone comes out with a new tool for us bloggers to use and try out. It’s always nice to see the newest and greatest programs to hit the web. One tool that I have been using for quite some time is Woopra. Woopra is a new web analytic software, it is currently in the beta stages right now. I see this program becoming very popular in the near future. More bloggers are starting to use it each and every day.
If you are unfamiliar with web analytics, then check out my series on “ Using Web Analytics to Optimize Your Blog.“
What is Woopra and how does it work?
Woopra is a web analytics program that allows you to get information about the visitors that visit your blog or website. The program itself operates in a client that you must download from their main website. Once you download the client, you simply run it and enter your username and password. After that you are good to go. Here is a nice little picture of what the client interface looks like.
The interface looks very clean and neat. I also like the colours that the developers used to create this program in, everything looks beautiful. As you can see, there are many features that Woopra has to offer. I will go over these later on.
Woopra runs fairly well on my Dell laptop that I use as my main machine. Every thing runs smoothly and nice except for a few things. The problem with Woopra is that every few hours or days it will randomly crash or disconnect. I think this is because of the fact that the program is still in it’s beta stages. I usually leave it logged in all day and off to the side. You can also minimize it and it stays in your toolbar so it is out of the way. This way, whenever you want to view your analytics, you can in a matter of seconds. Just click the icon and there it is! May I also say that everything is done in REAL TIME. No more waiting hours to see your web analytic information. This has to be one of the best features Woopra has to offer.
The Unique Features Of Woopra
This is where Woopra really starts to shine. It comes jam packed with all your standard web analytic tools plus many more. Woopra really allows you to find out information about your users and about every little visitor independently.
Here is an example. I have just visited my blog and within two seconds later, Woopra has detected that I am now on IronBlogger. So, while I am in woopra I click on me and here is what is shows. Woopra shows my country that I am from, as well as a Canadian Flag.
. It shows my city, my language, my local time, the browser I am currently using, my screen resolution and lastly my platform that I am running.
The cool thing about this is that you can do this with each and every user on your website. It also shows the pages I have visited, time spent on each page, and how I navigated there. Woopra will supply exact details about each visitor that visited your blog. With other analytic programs you can’t exactly pin point who is what but with Woopra you can.
Just to show you how cool this is, here is Rajaie from ” Rajaie Talks” on my blog. Here is all his info as well as what he was doing at the time. Pretty creepy eh?
. Now you can stalk anyone you want. You can also tag them for when they revisit your blog, so you will always know its them. There is also a feature that lets you talk to your visitors, but I don’t see this really of any use. I think all it will make them do is fall off their chair
.
There are many tools that I’m sure you will find handy. You have to be careful though because with so many tools, you may find yourself wasting a lot of your time like I usually am. Caution must be taking into consideration here.
Woopra Compared To Google Analytics
Woopra honestly to me is a great breakthrough in website analytics software. It offers everything Google Analytics can and then some more.
Here is a list of things that I like about Woopra:
- Real Time - Everything is done in real time, no more waiting a day for your information. Woopra delivers right away.
- More Accurate Results - With other analytic programs you can’t really pin point who is doing what. With Woopra you can pin point everything all the way to each and every visitor who visits your blog.
- Nice Interface - Woopra looks amazing and everything runs perfect. Once the program goes live I expect it to be almost flawless.
- More To Offer - Woopra just simply offers more then all the other web analytic programs out there. OH, and did I mention it is free…
How do you gain access into the Beta?
First of all, you have to visit the main website and submit your information. When someone reviews your website and personal info, you will then be admitted into the program. It took me about a month or so until I got a response back, so you can probably expect the same.
There are no current requirements that I know of to get accepted other then owning a website. As long as you submit clean information you should get accepted.
If you need help installing Woopra, you can read the F.A.Q here. It has very detailed instructions so you should be fine. I’ll probably also make a post that deals with installing it later on for those who do not know how to do it manually.
Overall Impression
I love Woopra, and I think that you should at least sign up now. Then when you get accepted you will be able to give it a go.
If you have used Woopra before, what are your expeiences with it? Did you have a love or hate relationship with it? Be sure to let us all know.

Good stuff, I like the fact that it looks to be delivering everything in real time. I love Google Analytics, but it’s not in realtime. Great find!
hahha, that sounds cool! I will dfntly try it!
Oh the horror that real time stats will bring to most bloggers. As I see it we check our stats way to often as it is. I mean how many times a day do you really need to check your statistics?
Count me in too, but I’d like to wait ’till after beta.
Your review looks good but I am stacked at Google Analytics and Awstats.
hehe just visited your blog to realize you wrote an article about woopra one day before me!!!
i have been using woopra for several months now and it simply rocks
btw, how much time passed until you got your sites approved? bloggervenue took months to get approved…
Haha, Woopra must be getting popular - I have seen 2 posts about it today
Na, it looks great - definitely gonna give it a shot - I’m so excited for real-time statistics
i signed up before and just got approved but another one of my blogs, sadly adding another site involves going through another approval cycle :(.. but it looks amazing..
I saw it at Blogger Venue, and now over here so might as well sign up! I registered my website but it requires approval. Does anyone know how long they take to approve a website? I heard it can take months.
in the post i have made i said it takes weeks, months to get approved, but it seems that they have read my review because they now are accepting my sites in the next day lol
It took my blog about a month or so to get accepted. I have heard recently though that they are accepting blogs more faster then they were a few months ago.
Congrats on getting accepted mate.
Woopra approves beta testers when resources are available. Remember, it is in private closed beta. We want to protect the public from the normal glitches that come with testing, though we’ve had very few, thankfully. It’s just part of the process.
Glad you all are enjoying it. We just approved a couple thousand users which brings our beta testing group to over 40,000. That’s a lot and we expect your feedback and input!
i’m just applying for my second site now, let’s see how long it takes for them to accept.
@ Woopra - Thanks for visiting my blog! I love Woopra and continue to use it day after day. I really can’t wait for it to go public.
@ Kahthan - It will probably take a few weeks or so, depending how quick they are are at responding. I think that they do everything at the end of the month and wait before allowing any new websites in.
That is what I have noticed though, most of the websites get approved around the same time.
Woopra has caused a stir with this product as most companies are not able to bring about a creation that competes with or even has benefits to a Google application. The real-time feature is quite appealing to one who may want to update often to check details as they occur.
