Yahoo! Buzz

Aug 20th, ‘08

Yahoo! BuzzToday is the opening of the beta social network called Yahoo Buzz. This network was kept under wraps but is now open for the public to use and abuse. With so many social networks coming and going, it’s hard to really know what ones to use and what ones to ignore. With Yahoo! Buzz, I see some potential in this network. The main reason is because it is backed up by a major corporation. If Google was to make it’s own Digg, then by all means you can guarantee that it will be big.

The purpose of Yahoo! Buzz is very similar to Digg. You submit your story to the website and wait for others to “Buzz” it. The more buzzes you get, the more popular your story will become. So, you will want to make catchy titles that are going to draw users in to visiting your story. The more buzz your story gets, the more traffic you will receive. I have noticed that the majority of the stories submitted seem to be news related. Stories on celebrities, politics, the world, and all the like are the main focus of this social network.

I see this social site having some potential. I took a quite visit this morning, and signed up. One thing that I noticed was that if you are from Canada, you can get more news stories related to your country. I do not know what other countries offer this, but it was something that popped up when I signed up. I think it’s kind of neat, especially if you are into the whole news, and politics thing. This way you can target your audience better.

The site looks pretty nice too, everything is easy to use and is well laid out.  I guess time will tell whether this network gets really big or not. I see some potential though. I’ll be keeping an eye out, and I suggest you do so as well.

What do you think of Yahoo! Buzz. Do you think it will be as big as Digg, Or Stumble Upon, Or Blog Engage?

  2. I am looking forward to leveraging yet another social network, I am just hoping this does not turn into like most everything else yahoo touches with exception to the babel fish converted.

    Here is hoping for gold!

  10. This sounds good, though many people will just go for Digg. It will be easier to dominate though, so even if you are on the top 10 of these people, that is a smaller group, you will still get good traffic.
